چکیده

In recent years many methods providing the ability to recognize rigid obstacles sedans and trucks have been developed. These methods provide the driver with relevant information. They are able to cope reliably with scenarios on motorways. Nevertheless, not much attention has been given to image processing approaches to increase the safety of pedestrians in urban environments. In this paper a method for the detection, tracking, and final recognition of pedestrians crossing the moving oberserver’s trajectory is suggested. A combination of dataand model-driven approaches is realized. The initial detection process is based on a fusion of texture analysis, model-based grouping of, most likely, the geometric features of pedestrians, and inverseperspective mapping (binocular vision). Additionally, motion patterns of limb movements are analyzed to determine initial object hypotheses. The tracking of the quasi-rigid part of the body is performed by different algorithms that have been successfully employed for the tracking of sedans, trucks, motorbikes, and pedestrians. The final classification is obtained by a temporal analysis of the walking process. Keywords— image analysis, inverse perspective mapping, Hausdorff-Distance, texture, spatio-temporal pattern, data fusion, system architecture

Modeling Pedestrian Walking Speed at Signalized Crosswalks Considering Crosswalk Length and Signal Timing

Quantifying the effects of crosswalk length and signal timing on pedestrian walking speed is an important requirement for providing a rational safety assessment and improving existing operational policies at signalized intersections. This study investigates the effects of pedestrian green time (PG), crosswalk length and pedestrian crossing direction on pedestrian walking speed at signalized cro...

Kinects and human kinetics: A new approach for studying pedestrian behavior

Microscopic pedestrian simulation models can be used to investigate pedestrian movement at the urban block and building model scale. In order to develop, calibrate and validate such microscopic models, highly accurate and detailed data on pedestrian movement and interaction behavior (e.g. collision avoidance) is required. We present a data collection approach for studying pedestrian behavior wh...

Temporal and Fine-Grained Pedestrian Action Recognition on Driving Recorder Database

The paper presents an emerging issue of fine-grained pedestrian action recognition that induces an advanced pre-crush safety to estimate a pedestrian intention in advance. The fine-grained pedestrian actions include visually slight differences (e.g., walking straight and crossing), which are difficult to distinguish from each other. It is believed that the fine-grained action recognition induce...

Field observations of factors influencing walking speeds

This study measures pedestrian walking speeds in New Zealand to estimate the influences of mean walking speeds as these concern urban planning and pedestrian facility design. Research was conducted using field observations of walking speeds under different conditions: gradient and urban/rural townships. The data show complex interrelationships between environment, personal characteristics of pe...

An Explicit Study on Walking Speeds of Pedestrians on Stairs

In order to predict a pedestrian’s walking speed on stairs from his/her characteristics of and those of the stairs, the relationship between the walking speed of a pedestrian on stairs and his/her characteristics, and the relationship between the pedestrians’ walking speeds on stairs and the stair-gradients were investigated. It is suggested that Leg Extensor Power shows a strong correlation to...

Evaluating the physical and psychological indicators effective on promotion of the pedestrian-based capacity of major urban spaces of Farahzad village of Tehran

There are many evident that people are more interested in walking in attractive urban spaces and inappropriate physical and psychological condition can reduce their presence in a remarkable amount. The current research investigates the influence of physical design and psychological elements and their criteria on selective physical activity and specifically walking in urban public spaces. Howeve...
